As most of you all have experienced in your own professional lives, in the practical world of coordinating schedules in order to allow the two of us to meet up regularly requires that we have some rules that we need to stick to.
Things happen in life and I often try to be as flexible as I can but there has to be rules…
AND HERE ARE THE RULES:
TUITION AND PAYMENT
I teach both half-hour and hour private guitar lessons for individual students in my studio.
These lessons occur once a week on a set day and time.
ex. Every Tuesday at 4:30 PM
LESSONS ARE TO BE PAID FOR EACH MONTH IN ADVANCE
Half-hour Lessons are $30 for each lesson.
Monthly Tuition is
$120 months with 4 lesson days (4 X $30)
$150 for months with 5 lessons (5 X $30)
Hour Lessons are $60 for each lesson.
Monthly tuition is
$240 for months with 5 lesson days (4 X $60)
$300 for months with 5 lessons (5 X $60)
Payment is due on the last lesson of each month for the following month in advance.
I accept cash, check, and Venmo payments.
There is a $50 fee for a bounced check and I will no longer accept checks from this student.
THERE ARE NO CANCELLATIONS. PERIOD.
I DO normally allow lessons to be RESCHEDULED at a mutually convenient time with at least 24 hours notice. This is solely at my discretion. If this is abused then this privilege may be discontinued for the student.
Also, I do use the honor system on sickness. No one with the flu needs to be here. I will normally reschedule lessons when you are sick. However, if this is abused, I will no longer continue this privilege. It is solely at my discretion.
MISSED LESSONS WILL NEVER BE ROLLED OVER TO FUTURE MONTHS. You will be expected to pay for all lessons in each future month. Reschedules must be IN ADDITION to your regularly scheduled lessons without exception.
SCHEDULING AND AVAILABILITY
My normal teaching days are Saturday through Wednesday.
MONDAY - WEDNESDAY 3-9PM
THURSDAY - occasional rescheduled lessons, gigs
FRIDAY - OFF
I occasionally work in lessons at earlier times during the week to accommodate adults on lunch breaks.
Availability is constantly changing. We’ll work out a mutually convenient lesson day/time for you based on your schedule and my current availability.
YOUR GUITAR AND OTHER SUPPLIES
1. Your Guitar
Each student will be expected to have their own adequate and appropriate guitar that they will bring with them to each lesson and it must be available to them for daily practice between lessons.
Although I’m happy to help with string changing and simple maintenance, this will be done on your time. It’s more cost effective for me to advise you on what you need and then have you go to a local guitar shop to set up your guitar accordingly.
A critical device for modern guitar lessons is…
2. Your Smartphone!
Your smartphone will allow you to video record examples during your lesson so that you know exactly what to practice, download a free guitar tuner, download a free metronome, download tablature for songs, and even create your own backing tracks to play along with.
3. A notebook and pencil for taking notes is also important.
BE ON TIME!
It is your responsibility to be on time for each lesson. Although I MIGHT sometimes go over a bit to help you finish up whatever your learning, I am under NO obligation to do so. So don’t expect me to do so.
Sometimes rules can sound a bit harsh when they’re spelled out but, alas, they are a necessity to keep all of the guitar teaching machinery moving forward. Things can quickly become unmanageable without them!
However, please know that I love your interest in learning guitar and appreciate your interest in me as your humble guide.
Thank you so much and get ready to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE and HAVE FUN!!!
